5 Honour your parents.

God wants you to listen to your parents which in most cases mean your dad because the Old Testament God was something of a chauvinist. The tradition of asking a father for his daughter’s hand in marriage was nothing new and nor was respect for virginity, though certain civilisations, as we have seen in Ancient Egypt, were a little more relaxed about it all.

Still this was now codified not in civil law but in a religious doctrine. If you wanted to wed you had to ask your dad and he was as liable to say no as he was to say yes

Not a problem I hear you cry. They could just bonk it to one another for a while until they got to that age where their dad was either dead or senile
